Religious Education - Religious Education Curriculum

Religious Education Curriculum

At St. John’s, Religious Education is the primary purpose of our school. We acknowledge that parents are the first educators of their children and that the school supports parents in the responsibility of supporting them on their faith journey. The Religious Education program is planned using the Archdiocese of Melbourne Framework 'To Know, Worship and Love'. Religious Education is integrated into other areas of the curriculum, with the framework providing the focus and standard for each unit of work.

Participation in liturgies and other special events enhances the formal R.E. Curriculum.  Students, teachers, parents and the wider parish community regularly gather for prayer and liturgy to celebrate feast days and special events on the school and liturgical calendar.  The community also works together in action for social justice on a local, national and global level.  The Parish of St John’s has specific formal programs in Year 3 or 4 to prepare children for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist (odd years), and in Year 5 or 6 to prepare children for Confirmation (even years). Children are prepared for the Sacraments at school and in collaboration with the wider Parish community.
