Curriculum - English

At St John the Baptist Primary School, we believe that active and effective participation in society depends on the ability to speak, listen, read, view and write with confidence, purpose and enjoyment. Our English program aims to develop imaginative thinkers, confident communicators and informed citizens in society. Reading Recovery is an integral component of our Literacy program. It is a short-term, intensive program designed for students in Year 1 who require additional support. Levelled Literacy Intervention – a short term, supplementary reading and writing program - targets students from 3-6 who require additional support. A key feature of our English program is the ongoing identification, planning for and monitoring of students’ individual needs. We believe this maximises each student’s outcomes, ensuring they achieve success.

Our students engage in authentic and meaningful encounters with print, they read and write with purpose and are supported through explicit and systematic instruction.
